Linux mint laptop keyboard not working. I can type with the help of an external usb keyboard. I am a bit disappointed by ubuntu. We would need an external keyboard to trigger a few keys during the boot process.
Same problems with linux mint os also. To do that force shutdown the system with the physical keys. The installation failed and left xorg in limbo.
Question certain keys not working on keyboard. I’m dual booting linux mint 19.3 cinnamon with windows 10 on my hp spectre x360, mainly using linux. I can change the brightness of the keyboard with the button on the keyboard, but can't type or use shortcuts.
Can't seem to find a fix. But suddenly it stopped working today. The keys work normally when booting in ubuntu, and all the 'regular' keys work when booting to mint, but the 10 key pad numbers do not work with mint.
I have installed linux mint 15 64 bit on my laptop. And linux mint, which are the distros i've used i tried changing my grub_cmdline_linux_default to be grub_cmdline_linux. Happened to me after trying to switch from nouveau to nvidia's proprietary driver via linux mint's (19.3) driver manager.
It works great when i am in boot mode or reconnection after a logg out. The keyboard works on the grub boot screen but stops when i get to the mint login screen. As soon as the de got initialized.
I installed linux mint 20 cinnamon onto my windows surface 2. Even though installation is successful, my keyboard & touch pad are not working. When i connected usb mouse,it is working fine but keyboard is not working.
My touchpad is working fine. Also, when mint boots, usb keyboard works just fine. I've tried another known good keyboard with the same result, so i am guessing that the problem is in the mint software somewhere.

Recently i installed fedora 8 with the dvd which is came with linux for u magazine. Today my laptop keyboard stopped working as soon i am logged in. I was doing some regular work and my touchpad suddenly stopped working, but my keyboard still worked, until the whole system froze, so i held power for a hard reboot. Any usb keyboard works when i try to access bios and when i want to change bios settings. Keyboard and mouse both not working.
The mouse, touchpad and attached usb keyboards and mouses works great. I recently installed linux mint 17.2 on my asus n550jk and can't get any backlight on my keyboard and fn does not work :( i found some commands by googling it that made it work but the problem starts again when i reboot. To work again need to reboot laptop after suspending.
In case, the keyboard, trackpad, and mouse all are not working for you even on the lock screen, we need to launch the terminal during boot itself. I had the keyboard working. If the keyboard works in windows, it might be usable at the bios screen.
I run linux mint 9.04 on a hp laptop. My laptop keyboard & touchpad is not working in linux, i tried live usb of linux mint 17 & fedora 20. You will need to connect a wired keyboard for this to work.
Before beginning to any fix it is recommended to restart your computer as many problems (hardware or software) can be fixed instantly through a restart. Question asus keyboard not working: I wanted to change and update my laptop and for a few aspects it is a failure (bugs, not recognized hardware). No matter how many linux distros you try, there are good chances problem will not be solved.
However, my touchpad not recognized at all comes with a new linux ubuntu distribution while it was perfectly functional with a very old fedora distrib. I have lenovo y500 series laptop. The keyboard works on the grub menu screen allowing you to select the os however after linux loads up both keyboard and touch pad or any 1 of them stops functioning.
After suspending my keyboard not working. I have a dell xps 9560 with linux mint 18 installed. My computer has dual boot ubuntu 16 and mint 18.
It works perfectly in windows & in bios menu, as the linux os starts loading keyboard lights turn off. And having in mind how old laptop is, not sure if i'll ever replace it). But inside mint, it doesn't.
